We print leaflets, pamphlets and flyers on both matte and gloss paper stocks weighing between 60 and 150gsm. The reason for the specific paper weight range is that most leaflets and pamphlets are either trimmed to size and delivered flat, or trimmed and folded to size.
When leaflets and pamphlets need to be folded, it's crucial that the folding be fast and economical. Most commercial folding machines can only fold stocks up to 150gsm. Should a customer require leaflets printed on a heavier stock it would mean that the board (yes, above 150gsm is regarded as a board stock) would need to be scored first and then hand-folded along the crease.
Some of the most common folding formats for printed leaflets and pamphlets is a z-fold, u-fold or roll-fold, which means that there are a minimum of two folds per pamphlet. On a big pamphlet print run, you would want the finishing to be as automated as possible.
Why is print finishing automation a factor?
The reason for this is that the move from a purely automated folding process to a partial hand-work process would increase the leaflet finishing cost. People do not work as fast and steadily as machines! Obviously, if the leaflets are not folded, this is not a factor. However, remember that the cost of the pamphlet paper also increases with an increase in paper weight.
Just something you need to bear in mind when ordering printed and folded leaflets, pamphlets or flyers.
